Disney World planning tips: They're having a party!!

A party--in Disney World terms, the word party doesn't even justify what they do.  A grand, elaborate blow at the Magic Kingdom- out is more like it!  With special fireworks, special parades, special shows, extra characters to see and even snow in Florida would mean a big time for all involved.

Disney World has two kinds of parties each year-Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (referred to as MNSSHP for short) held in September and October and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP for short) held in November and December.  If you are looking at the calendar when planning your upcoming trip and see the Magic Kingdom closing at 7 pm during those 4 months, you can almost bet that will be a party night.

Party events only allow a certain number of guests in the parks so tickets are usually purchased in advance to ensure they don't run out.  Parties do sell out!  Times for the parties are from 7 pm until 12 am according to the tickets and the CMs that sell them.  In the past (and there's no indication this would change) if you get to the gate at 4 pm and have a party ticket, you will be able to get in then. 

Upon entering for the party, you will receive a wrist band.  At 7 pm, those without wrist bands are not allowed to be in attractions or be in the parks and are led out.  If you are dining when it gets 7 pm, you will be led to the front upon finishing your meal.  This sounds harsh, but when you are in the parks during these times with low crowds, you will greatly appreciate it!

Adult tickets for the parties vary depending on days you go with children's tickets slightly less.  As a tip on conserving your park tickets, many people do not do the parks with a regular ticket on days they are doing a party, but will do other things like go to the resort pool, visit the Boardwalk or Downtown Disney, or even resort hop to check out other resorts you may not have seen before.  The later is strongly suggested during these holiday times as each resort is so elaborately decorated. 

Hallowishes Fireworks

MNSSHP special events are dance parties with the characters, Hallowishes fireworks (usually at 9:30), Boo-to-you Halloween parade (usually at 8:15 and 10:30-the later will be less crowded) with the headless horseman leading the way, special stage shows, free face painting, and trick or treating.  Guests are also encouraged to dress in family friendly costumes and all guests are welcome to trick or treat-not just children.  Trick or treat bags are given out when bracelets are received upon entering.  In the past, the trick or treat bags have mostly come out very full!  Many hard to find characters are out at this time, including all the dwarves.

Haunted Mansion characters at Boo to You Parade

MVMCP special events include the lighting of the castle with the Christmas lights (which is absolutely awesome!!), Once Upon a Christmastime parade with Santa and the reindeer (usually at 8:15 and 10:30), Holiday Wishes fireworks (usually at 9:30), special shows, dance parties with the characters, visits and pictures with Santa, free cookies and HOT chocolate ( get it before you want it because it is super hot!) and appearances of characthers not often seen.

Since my favorite time of the year, especially at Disney World is Christmas, we started with MVMCP.  We have been to MVMCP many times and love it as much on the last time as the first.  Later, we started doing the MNSSHP and found it to be one of the most fun times we could have at Disney World.  With the reduced amount of people in the parks, it is super easy to get on attractions without waiting in lines.  We have been on Space Mountain eight times in a row, just getting off and getting right back in line with no wait and riding Big Thunder Moutain Railroad without the CM stopping it and just keeping it going for us.  We just rolled right on through! 

It is often that we can do more on a party night than we can on a regular day in the park from opening to closing.  Definitely a money saver and super fun!!  With the parks all decorated for the holidays, these are definitely times to not miss and the parties add to the excitement and fun.  I can tell you I recommend them highly, but even that can't describe the amount of fun that can be had at these parties!!

I bought my favorite Disney purse a couple years ago on my Christmas trip.  I love a purse with lots of pockets and this purse didn't have nearly enough, but it was an awesome purse--and it matched my polo shirt with the cute little Mickey's on it.  I had to have it!  I tried to use it like it was but could not find anything in it.  Then my friend saw me with it and she showed me some purse organizers she was selling.  Just what I needed!!  I bought one-it was $22 and that was at a discounted price! 

I wish I would have known about the purse organizer that Tanga has on sale today.  It's in the second chance deals at the bottom of the home page.  For only $6.98, I could have had a great purse organizer--with pockets!!  I think I will have to buy a couple more to match other purses that I might "have" to buy in the future.

Cheap paper towels at Walgreen's 4/5

I had several things on my Walgreen's list for yesterday, but unfortunately for me (but good for someone else I guess), they were out of everything except the paper towels that I wanted.  I needed them anyway and they were a great deal so I was happy.  With a little Disney bonus for a precious grandson, I was really happy!

Here's what I got:
2 6-pks of Scott's Natural paper towels  $5 each
1 Disney light up Easter wand  $2.50 (was marked 2/$5 or $2.99 each but rang up as $2.50)

Use that Crock Pot- A time and money saver

Crock Pot... you know... that big thing in your kitchen that you got as a wedding present but have not used since you opened the box.  Yeah, we all have those around, but mine isn't the Crock Pot--it's that big griddle that I don't know what to cook on other than pancakes and you can only eat those so often. 

But back to the Crock Pot.  If you use the Crock Pot, you could be saving lots of time and by doing so, saving lots of money.  There are many recipes for Crock Pots and most are super easy.  If you put your food on in the morning and let it cook on low, by the time you are ready for dinner, your food is too!  All you have to do then is heat up some sides and you are good to go.  On those nights when you have ball practice and dance practice and would usually go get fast food for $20, you can come home to a nice home cooked meal for a fraction of the price.

So to get us started, here's a super easy recipe that takes hardly any time to get going, super versatile and will make your house smell so good when you come home for dinner.

Barbecue pork
1 Boston butt
your favorite BBQ sauce
Salt and Pepper

Turn your crock pot on low.  Put in the Boston butt.  Add salt and pepper to taste.  Pour BBQ sauce over the meat-just enough to cover the top of the meat like you would have brushed it on.  That's usually 3 to 4 oz.  Put the lid on.

When it's dinner time, you have an awesome Boston butt just ready to go.  You can take the meat out and slice it with beans, potato salad, or whatever side you want with it, or you can tear it apart and have it on hamburger buns with french fries or chips.  Either way, it's super easy and sooo good!  You can also do country style ribs this way.

Disney World planning tips: First Haircut at the Main Street Barber Shop

First haircuts are special for every child and parent, but imagine how special it could be at the Magic Kingdom.  Having that first haircut at the Magic Kingdom is totally possible at the Main Street Barber Shop, located just to the right of City Hall if you are facing City Hall.  I had heard of this and seen pictures of it, but had never experienced it first hand until May 2010 when we took our sweet grandson. 

We got there about 9:15 am and there was already a small line.  Several children were in the chairs with people filming the hair cuts and hair decorations.  Some were getting their hair in a princess-do complete with glitter spray while some were there for first haircuts like we were.  Every child that left there felt special and every parent that left there was smiling ear-to-ear because their little sweetheart had been treated like a prince or princess. 

There were three cast members working that morning and going super fast but paying special attention to each child and posing for pictures when asked.  When it was our turn, Little Man was a little confused as to why he had to sit there.  He was only 9 months old but had a head full of hair and it really needed cutting so we planned that trip just for his haircut.  As soon as he sat down, the cast member began placing Mickey stickers all over him.  What a sight he was!  Notice the stickers on his toes!

She brought out the spinning Mickey toy and totally had his attention.  He would pick a sticker off and place it somewhere else and before we left, we all had stickers all over us!  He was happy sitting there and she was trimming away.  Even with him constantly moving, she was always very careful and he never really realized he was getting a trim.  Here they are deep in conversation about how much more he wants trimmed.

When she was done, our little prince got his crown, a pair of Mickey ears with "First Haircut" on the back.  He was moving too much trying to get them off of his handsome new haircut for me to get a good picture of him with them on his head though.  His new friend, the cast member, carefully packaged up a lock of his freshly cut hair and gave that to his mom along with a certificate about his most regal occassion.  The cast members all waved by to him, and he returned the wave as I was paying for his haircut. 

I would have expected to pay $10-$25 for a haircut at a normal barber shop, but this one was special. We got the Mickey ears hat, the certificate, the fun with all the pictures and video, and the wrapped lock of hair and  the total bill was less than $20 before the tip.  If it would have been three times as much, it would have still been worth it!  This may be my most frugally fun tip at Disney World other than the list of free things to do. 

When we have another little prince or princess in the family, I'm sure we will continue this tradition.  It certainly made for an event to remember!

Walgreens has the 7 days of deals going for the photo department this week.  Today's deal is a free 8x10 when you use code DEAL8x10.  You can order this online or in the store.  It must be ordered today, but you do not have to pick it up today.  It's a great way to get an awesome picture for a Mother's Day or Father's Day gift for free!

All You--A great place to find free samples

All you magazine is a great place to find coupons, but the All You website is also a great place to find free samples.  Each day, All You posts a new sample you can get for free.  Today's free sample is for Playtex Sport tampons.  You can go here to sign up for your free sample or to sign up to receive an email each day notifying you of that day's sample.

All You is a great magazine that can only be ordered for home delivery or purchased in Walmart stores.  There are always many great coupons in All You.  The April issue is in Walmart stores now and the coupons are valued at over $70 in this issue.

Disney Destinations emails compromised

Disney Destinations sent out an email this morning about their email service provider, Epsilon was hacked and some email addresses were taken.  If you received this email, please be sure the email is from Disney before clicking any links.  Be leary of any email acting as Disney Destinations that is asking for your social security number or any banking information.  If in question about an email, you can call 407-560-2547.

Disney is not the only company that was effected by this breach.  Many companies were effected, such as JPMorgan Chase, Citi, Tivo, and many others.

Taste of Home magazine on Tanga today for $3.99/year!

Tanga has a great deal today on Taste of Home magazine.  It is listed as $17.99 for a year subscription but if you use the discount code TASTE, you can get it for only $3.99 a year!  I have subscribed to Taste of Home for years and love the great recipes in them.  Actually, I just dug out an old one (I keep them for reference when I want to cook something different) to get the cupcake recipes out of it.  YUM!  Like I need more cupcakes!

Disney World deals: up to 30% off deluxe resorts through August 13

Disney World has just released a new discount for up to 30% off of deluxe resort or deluxe villa rooms through August 13. Save 25% off at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Polynesian Resort for most nights June 15 to August 13.

Disney's deluxe resorts have awesome pools with great theming and a slide, queen beds, and gourmet dining. Room service is also available. Upgrades to club level are also available for assistance in arranging tee times, dining reservations, and childcare arrangements. Villa resorts also include a full kitchen and a washer and dryer for a home-like feel.
