Apologies

I wanted to take a minute to apologize to my readers for not being on here a lot lately.  Hopefully, what I'm working on will not only benefit me (and be fun!) and my family, but be helpful for many readers also.

I have been working on getting my travel agent certification specializing in Disney destinations.  There are many different parts to this process and I'm learning as I go.  This has been very fun since I love Disney so much and love to share so that others will have the most magical trip possible.  I will post more information as soon as I have completed all my certification process.

Tasty Tuesday-Goofy's Candy Co.

Looking for the perfect Walt Disney World snack is one of my favorite things to do.  I love to find great snacks.  Of course, I want them to be cheap but I want them to be good!  You know, either the kind that is sooo ooey-gooey with chocolatey goodness that you don't care if your hand is covered in the chocolate-that's just more to lick off- or slightly salty (well, maybe a little bit more salty for me since I love salty foods too!) and makes you want an ice cold drink right away.  YUM!  I could make a meal off of snacks!!  When we got to Downtown Disney, we always head for Goofy's Candy Co.

That's the place to find any kind of snack you want.  If it's pretzels shaped like Mickey (excellent for a salty treat!), a bag of trail mix, or any kind of chocolate concoction you can think of, this is the place to find it.  Just to give you an idea of what is there, here are a few pictures of some of the wonderful goodies.

There are all kind of snacks.  Bakery items, bagged candies, bins with candies that you weigh out, boxed gift candies, and the all important specially made treats.  Yes, those are a blast!  You can choose what your "base" treat is (pretzels, marshmallows, Mickey shaped rice crispy treats, or giant oreo cookies to name a few), then choose what you want it dipped in (milk, white, or dark chocolate), then pick what your toppings are.  The toppings make it interesting.  You can have many different things including smashed up cookies, sprinkles, and drizzles of more chocolate!  As if you couldn't tell, I'm really a fan of chocolate!  Not only is this a huge treat, but it's very economical.  They run about $4 and are huge!

So the  next time you are hanging around wondering where to find that next great snack, head over to DTD and Goofy's Candy Co for a great economical snack.

Tips and Tricks on Thursday-a tasty and frugal treat

It's hot in most of the United States right now making it hard to do anything outside.  One thing we need to remember is to stay hydrated.  It is especially true at Disney World, where you will most likely be thinking of all the things you want to do instead of thinking of stopping for a drink.  One great way to stay hydrated at Disney World is by carrying your own water bottle and filling it up at the water fountains in the parks.  There are many water fountains placed around the parks to help alleviate dehydration in the summer heat so take advantage of them.

If you are like me, I really don't like to drink water because I had rather have something in a flavor that I like.  Kraft Foods has come up with an easy and cheap way to do this.  Mio is a small bottle of liquid enhancer in six tasty flavors--Berry Pomegranate, Strawberry Watermelon, Sweet Tea, Peach Tea, Fruit Punch and Mango Peach.  It takes just two small squirts for each 16.9 oz bottle of water to have a great tasting refreshment.  There is no sugar and no calories in Mio.  Our family already loves all these great flavors so I'm sure we will have some Mio packed with us on our next Disney World trip!

Wild Wednesday!-It's hot!

When it's hot outside, one of the coolest places to be is in the pool.  Most everyone loves a good pool and Disney World has some of the best!  Since this is Wild Wednesday, we'll start with some of the wild ones and move to the more "tame" pools.

The most wild one would have to be at Port Orleans French Quarter.  Who wouldn't want to spend the day sliding down this massive slide into the nice cool water?  It is a great pool for younger children since it is not as high up as other slides at WDW pools.

If we are going to talk about wild pools, we would have to mention the pool at Animal Kingdom Lodge.  This is a zero entry pool making it super easy for little ones to get into the water without having to worry about them falling over the edge into the pool.

And who knows what kind of wild things lurk in the wild pool at Coronado Springs Resort!  It's a huge resort with a great pyramid full of fun and mystery.  Check it out!

The wonderful pool at the Polynesian Resort seems to be wild while seeming to "breathe" all on it's own.  This great volcano is the site of some great fun on hot days and even on days when it's not hot--the pools at WDW are heated so you can swim even in the winter time.  What fun!

OK, so this one may not be wild but it's one you will want to be aware of.  Some people are scared of it so we want to let them know up front so they aren't face to face with a huge clown.  Well, maybe some people we would like to take pictures of their faces when they see it.....  (No, that's ugly!)  You can find this one at the Boardwalk Inn.

And this massive "beast" of a pool has provided hours of fun for many people.  it's at the Yacht and Beach Club and is named Storm Along Bay.  This pool is huge with many great features including a lazy river.  Be aware though that there is a stipulation for hanging out with this great beast-you must be currently staying at the Yacht Club or Beach Club to gain admission--but it's sooo worth it!

This one isn't a beast at all, but since he's my favorite (and technically a mouse making him wild in some books), I get to add him.  He can be found at the All Star Movies Resort.  My kind of wild for sure!

There are many great pools at WDW, but this is a start.  Stay tuned and maybe we can show more sometime in the near future.

Tasty Tuesday-A good breakfast to start the day

They've been saying for years that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  That is especially true if you are spending your day out in the heat and not thinking about eating until later in the day.  Getting a great breakfast is super easy to do at WDW.

If you are looking at having something quick service, all the food courts serve breakfast.  Not just any breakfast, but good breakfast.  It's a frugal way to fill that belly before heading out to the parks.  They have all the normal breakfast fare too.  Eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, muffins, bagels, biscuits and gravy, and those ever wonderful Mickey waffles.  If you haven't had a Mickey waffle, they are certainly worth getting!!  YUM

He loves Handy Manny!

If you are wanting to do a character meal but don't want to break the budget, breakfast buffets are the way to go.  They are much cheaper than a dinner character meal and have all the normal breakfast foods--plus more!  You get a lot of great time with the characters, are entertained to start your day, and get rid of the rumbly in your tummy! One great option is Cape May Cafe where they even have a yogurt bar. If you are heading to a breakfast character meal in one of the parks, such as Crystal Palace with Pooh and friends, or Hollywood and Vine with Handy Manny and Special Agent Oso, try to make your reservation before the park opens.  It's some extra special time to walk through the parks without it being crowded.  You can't wander around and have to go straight to the restaurant, but you do have time to take a few pictures before you go to eat.  That's a bonus to me!

We were all alone!!

Now that I've  totally made myself hungry, I think I'll stop now so I can go dream of those Mickey waffles....

Magic Kingdom Monday

If you go to Disney World right now, you will see a lot of construction going on.  You will also notice that Toontown is no longer there.  What's going on?  The new and improved Fantasyland is being built with a lot of fun new aspects and some additional capacity for old favorites.  Here's an overview:

First off, Dumbo will be two sections instead of just one hopefully shortening the wait time for this attraction.  Right now, if you go to Fantasyland after 10 am, you can expect to wait atleast 45 minutes for this attraction.  The que will also be interactive and fun.  This will be part of the "Storybook Circus" section of Fantasyland.

Be Our Guest restaurat-This one will feature Belle and Beast in their very own castle.  This new restaurant will seat up to 550 guests and will be counter service during the day and table service in the evenings.  Around the restaurant will be Bonjour! Village Gifts, Gaston's Tavern (a smaller eating place), and Enchanted Tales with Belle where guests can interact with Belle.

A little more fun for another of our favorite princesses will be Ariel's new digs, Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid.  This will be an indoor attraction featuring moving cars with singing animatronics and awesome details!

While we are talking princesses, Snow White's Scary Adventure will be replaced with a meet and greet area, Princess Fairytale Hall, and she is getting a spot in The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in the new section of Fantasyland.  This will be an indoor coaster that will have swinging cars!  Sounds like lots of fun!

Goofy's Barnstormer is no longer a Barnstormer at all.  It will be the Great Goofini attraction and will also be more circus themed.  This will also be part of the Storybook Circus section.

With all this great new fun stuff coming in 2012 and 2013, I don't seem to mind the canvases and boarded up areas.  I know this new Fantasyland area will be awesome and I can't wait to see it!!  It's just something to look forward to and a great excuse to plan another trip :)

Tips and Tricks on Thursday-planning your day

If you go to Disney World and just walk into any park without a plan, you are in for a frustrating day.  You don't have to plan every minute, but having a general plan will save you much aggravation so today's tip and trick is to plan your day.

Planning your day means many things.

1.  Know what time the parks open.  Disney posts the park hours several months in advance making it super easy to plan what day you want to be at a park.

2.  Extra Magic Hours--do you want to do them or not?  Extra Magic Hours (EMH) are extra park hours that are available to Disney World resort guests.  Disney sets the hours for a different park eich day and they can be either morning(usually 1 hour) or evening hours(usually 3 hours).  Many people love EMH and many people avoid the parks that are having EMH that day.  To me, any extra hours in the park are great hours!  I do EMH every chance I get, especially the evening hours.

3.  Know what's important.  There are many attractions that we all love and we have those "must-see" lists.  We also have those attractions that are just ok and some that we don't really care to see this trip.  If we know what attractions are important then we can make sure we hit those at the right times.

4.  Know what are the times to be at certain attractions.  This could be anything from seeing Toy Story Mania first thing in the morning to making sure you are lined up an hour early to get a seat for Fantasmic!  A major one is if you want do Dumbo, do it first.  It gets super hot during the middle of the day and it will be packed after about 10 am.

5.  Don't wait in line longer than 20 minutes.  If there is a fast pass available, get one of those or come back later.  Time is an important commodity at Disney World so don't waste it in line.

By using these five tips, you can plan your days at Disney World without having to pay to get an estimated number of how busy the parks can be.  I've been at all times of the year, including holidays and spring break and this has always worked for me.

Have fun planning!!
