Tasty Tuesday--great snacks at WDW

Today's tip is all about the tasty treats you can find at WDW.  While it won't cover all of them, it will cover some of the best.  I'm sure another Tasty Tuesday will cover more.

1.  Popcorn in a bucket--this has to rank as my number one favorite treat at WDW.  I also love the buckets (shhhh... don't tell my family I have a ton of these in the cabinet!).  It sells at the entrances of each park and makes a great portable snack that you can carry back to your resort.  This has to be the best popcorn of all.  It's great hot, but it's also really good on the long ride home when it's cold.  I also use the buckets for saving change for my next WDW adventure.

2.  Turkey legs--I know this sounds awful, but you just have to try one!  They are awesome!  If you love ham, then these turkey legs will make you so happy.  It must be something in the way they smoke them, because you just can't find them like this anywhere else (I've tried!).  They are huge, juicy, wonderful treats that are too big for most people to eat so you might want to think of sharing.  You can't imagine how many times I've been asked where did I buy that huge thing while sitting around eating them.  YUM!

3.  Chocolate covered strawberries-- Now, if you need a sweet treat, then this has to be at the top of the list.  These aren't just any strawberries--they are huge!  They are about three times the size of normal strawberries and are covered in the most awesome chocolates.  You can find them at several places, such as Goofy's Candy Company at DTD, the candy store on Main Street, and many of the resort buffets and/or concierge lounges (such as AKLtaht I will be trying out in only 49 more days!!)

Now that I'm hungry, I think it's time for some breakfast while I think of the next installment for Tasty Tuesday!

Frugal Fridays--The Boardwalk

Not everything at Walt Disney World costs as much as tickets and staying at the Grand Floridian.  There are many free or cheap things you can do at WDW to have fun and most importantly, make memories.  Unless you've stayed at one of the EPCOT area resorts, today's tip may be one you didn't know was available.  Although you may have heard of Disney's Boardwalk Inn, you may not fully realize what is available there-especially if you've been by there in the day time.

If you've been in the evening, then you have seen the fun side of the Boardwalk!

Disney's Boardwalk comes to life in the evenings and there are many fun things to do and see there.  There are carnival type games to play, snacks to buy like popcorn or a donut from the Boardwalk Bakery, and even surrys that you can rent to ride around the EPCOT area resorts.  You can watch a magician or see the man that climbs the ladder--without it being propped on anything! (that part was most interesting, but kind of scary watching him!)  If you are over 21, you can go to Jellyrolls or Atlantic Dance Hall.  Just past there, on the way to the Swan and Dolphin, you will find an area that looks like a bridge.  If you stand there at the right time of the night, you just might get a glimpse of the EPCOT fireworks from Illuminations.  If the game is on and you want to see it, head on over to the ESPN Club and get your game on!

If you have some free time one afternoon and are looking for something fun to do for cheap, head on over to the Boardwalk for some great Frugal Fun!

Tips and Tricks on Thursday

Today's tip is a good one for when you are planning your Disney trip and when you arrive and first see that beautiful castle standing in front of you.  The tip is RELAX!  It sounds so simple, but is the hardest thing you will do.

Planning your trip can be super overwhelming whether this is your first trip or your thousandth.  There are so many choices to make with the resort types, themes, on site, off-site, which parks, what time of year, etc...  It just goes on and on and as much as you want this to be THE perfect trip, you also don't want to miss a thing.  Well, just know ahead of time, you will miss lots of things!  Even after I've been there over 200 times, there are still things I haven't done and seen yet and that is what makes it so special-that I can go back time after time and it never gets old.

The best way for you to relax when you get to WDW is to plan by the theory of what is most important, not seeing and doing it all.  You will stand a better chance of relaxing if you plan this way.  Make a list of what is important.  Start with the things you must do and go down in priority.  If it's important that you see Haunted Mansion, put that at the top of your list and make sure you get it done.  If it's important that your resort choice have a pool slide, then choose from the moderate or deluxe categories.

So for today, your plan should include relaxing.  Just relax and know that there will be more to see on other visits and take your time doing the things you must do.  Anything extra is just a bonus!

Have a magical day!

Wild Wednesday!-Animal Kingdom

Wild!  That's what I think about when I get to Animal Kingdom!  Animal Kingdom is always so much fun and my favorite part of Animal Kingdom has to be Festival of the Lion King.  I love that show!  It gives me chill bumps to think about it.  It's so refreshing and fun.

If you haven't been before, stop by and it will be something you will never forget.  The four main cast members make it very memorable with their larger than life personalities and the other cast members know how to back them up perfectly.  From the beginning to the end, it is mesmerizing making Festival of the Lion King our Wild Wednesday moment of the day.  For more information, check Disney's site here.

Tip:  Sit down front if you have small children that would like to participate.

Magic Kingdom Monday

Mondays are always a little wild so I thought we could start off the week with the Magic Kingdom to brighten the day.  Nothing puts me in the mood more than seeing Cinderella Castle bright and early in the morning.

Did you know you could get into the Magic Kingdom before it opens and be just about the only ones taking that awesome walk down Main Street?  For an extra special way to start off the day, you can book an early breakfast at Crystal Palace or at Cinderella's Royal Table an hour before the park opens and have it all to yourself.  You can't go around the park checking things out, but if you want to stop and take that most perfect picture of the castle with your family while there's not much chance of having unknown people walking in front of your camera, this is a great opportunity.  The breakfasts are always great too and you would have a great time with the characters at these character breakfasts.

If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, Crystal Palace is one table service credit and Cinderella's Royal Table is two table service credits.

Happy Monday!!

Waking Up Disney

Waking up at Walt Disney World is one of those Ahhh moments.  When your eyes open and you see that distinctive resort decor, you just know you have arrived.  It's relaxing and exciting all in one and you wake up with a smile on your face.  Then it dawns on you!  You can't be laying around in that bed all day--you have a theme park to go to!  It will open in less than two hours and you must be at rope drop.  It's time to get a nice warm shower (let that water hit those feet a little extra today-they're going to need that TLC) and finish getting yourself ready so you can get the rest of the family ready.  No matter how old they get, they will still need you to get them ready too.

With only a little over an hour to spare, you rush down to the restaurant or food court and grab a quick but nutritious bite to eat and that all important cup of coffee.  Mickey Waffles seem to start the day off with a bang and atleast one person in our family always ends up ordering that.  After the family is done eating, it's off to the bus, boat, or monrail.  Isn't it great to know you don't have to navigate anywhere but right back to Disney transportation?  After a long day in the parks, I don't want to think about driving!

With minutes to spare, you arrive--I mean really arrive!!  You see that distinctive site--Spaceship Earth, Cinderella Castle, The Tree of Life, or Sorcerer Mickey's hat and the Earful Tower.  That's the next Ahhhh moment of the day.  You have made it.  All the rushing to shower and tying of shoes, going back to get the tickets that you left on the counter in the room is totally worth it.  Enjoy your day at Walt Disney World and tomorrow, you can wake up Disney and do it all over again!!

Disney World planning tips: A magical place for a lifetime commitment

Do you know someone that has been a princess all her life and deserves that most magical wedding?  If you do, then Disney World is the place to be for that most special event!  Whether she's the Snow White or the Cinderella type, Disney has just the touches needed to show her just how special of a princess she really is.  There are many special venues that can be used for the service along with some awesome places to have all those wedding photographs taken.  She can even have the "trash the dress" photos done!  Cinderella's Coach can also be rented to deliver her to that most important event complete with the coachmen.  Disney can provide the most basic to the most elaborate wedding, and even have a desert party at EPCOT during Illuminations, or have a ceremony on the Disney Cruise ship.

To see all that Disney has to offer for this most special occasion, check out Disney Bridal and choose her favorite princess to see the gorgeous dresses or Disney Weddings to plan all those important details including an awesome Disneymoon.

Star Tours-The Adventure Continues

Have you ever been on Star Tours at Disney's Hollywood Studios?  Star Tours opened on December 15, 1989 and has been a favorite for many Star Wars fans and many that don't know anything about Star Wars (like me).  It is an attraction that immerses you in a simulation ride on the way to Endor.  Well, not any more.  A new Star Tours opens on May 20, 2011 much to the delight of Star Tours fans and those attending Star Wars weekends at WDW.  The new Star Tours features 3D effects with more Star Wars characters present.  The old Star Tours went only to Endor, but the new Star Tours goes to several different places, so riding once won't show you all there is to see.  You could be on a magical journey to Tatooine or even Naboo.  But be careful!  You might run across Darth Vader or the Storm Troopers!

If you will be at Disney's Hollywood Studios before May 20, be on the look out for soft openings as there very may well be a chance to get a sneak peek while they are working all the kinks out.  May the Force be with you!!

Mickey loves the Military!

If you or an immediate family member are a service person, then Walt Disney World has just the "ticket" for you!

First of all, members of the US Military can purchase 4 day park hopper tickets for only $138 each.  You can get the 4 day park hoppers with the water park and more option for only $165 each.  This deal is good through September 28, 2011 but another deal will be coming out immediately after that will run through September 2012.  The military member or their spouse ( but not both) can purchase up to 6 of these tickets all at one time, but not separately (like buying 2 now and going back to buy 4 more later).  The tickets can be purchase by calling Disney directly or by purchasing them at select Military outlets.

Disney World is also offering up to 40% off of resort stays through 9/28/11.  This offer is good most nights through 10/1/11 for active duty or retired military members.  To book this deal, contact the military ticket outlet or call Disney at 1-407-939-7830.

And as usual, Shades of Green is available for a reduced rate and only for military servicemembers.  Shades of Green also sells the discounted tickets and is a great place to stay when you want to be inside the Disney World confines but not actually at a Disney World resort.

I hope you enjoy your time at Disney World but mostly know that we thank you for your service!
